Early Literacy Standards
Literacy-Over the past few years, researchers and practitioners have studied how children learn to read, write, and understand written language. The following concepts have been identified that children need to become competent and confident readers and writers and the kinds of experiences that help them make progress. Here are seven components of literacy for preschool children ages 3-5 (Snow, Burns, & Griffin 1998; National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, 2000)
Technology-Is the study of tools, machines, materials, techniques, and sources of power that make work easier and that solve problems. Children learn technology by exploring how things work.
We have identified four components of the technology standards that apply to preschool children.
